Our final 2021 Interior Trends blog looks at texture. We have already looked at adding character to your home through use of pattern or colour in previous blog posts, however if your style is more minimalistic, one of the most effective ways to add aesthetic appeal to your home is through the use of textured furnishings. You may opt for a realistic wood grain texture in your vinyl flooring or a statement large weave pair of curtains.

In our style influences post we spoke about the emerging Japandi trend which characteristically makes use of natural textures such as grainy woods and chunky weaves. We would recommend a lovely, earthy toned, wooden textured vinyl like Sorbonne, pictured right, which has a realistic grain texture incorporated into the wear layer. If wood isn’t for you, you could explore the other natural textures we have available in our extensive range of samples in our showroom from marble to stone. The quality of vinyl flooring has improved immensely in the past few years, with the variety of thickness and textures available it is virtually indistinct from previously more popular, and pricier, flooring options so we are expecting to see it become a much more widely used flooring option. 

There’s no reason why texture has to mimic natural materials though – you may choose a luxurious wool carpet with chunky weave! 

Often, people choose to showcase their personality in their homes through use of pattern in their soft furnishings such as blinds, curtains and cushion covers but a more minimalistic and equally attractive approach is to make use of texture within the materials. For a cosier feeling room a tactile, plush fabric can be used for curtains or cushion covers – speak to a member of our team about our made to measure curtains and matching cushion covers! Alternatively you may want to look into wooden venetian blinds. Like vinyl flooring there has been a surge in the variety available in recent years, to suit all budgets, ranging from painted wood slats to realistic faux wood – as pictured below, can you tell the difference?!
